I thought this project was quite fun. When i first started I thought it would be quite difficult but the more I explored folding and cutting it began more apparent and easier.
I began with ideas of 'holders'. These included mobile holders, shoe holders, shelves, toothbrush holders. My shelf attempt was a fail so then I tried to make an ipod dock. I succeeded in doing so, and then further developed this ipod dock into three docks. This eventually formed into a remote control dock with 3 ports. As the fundamental base of the cutting diagram was established i further developed the folding and cutting, making it more appealing and at the same time quite 'fururistic' and technologic - as the name suggests 'control station.'
This product is a universal item as everybody as it has a household purpose and everybody can use it. The days of searching for that television remote under your seat are over!

The design of your product looks really smart and masculine and it seems like you had quite some time cutting it out. I like how it would save a lot of storage space in the room but maybe you could of made it so that you could store five remotes since these days, there are numerous remote controls in the modern household.

The shape and the color you used is really elegant and the shape, along with how it folds is great as well.

Your concept is great, the folding shape is very smart, I can so imagine this to be used and manufactured, I would love one in my house, because I always have trouble of finding my controls. But I think your user’s instruction poster lake of accuracy, maybe try doing it by using illustrator in that way you can make your product more professional.
ReplyDeleteThis is a very practical design, it has addressed an everyday need. I think this is a much nicer option than the designs that hang over the side of an arm chair. I am really impressed in the amount of thought that has gone into this design. There are multiple folds joints, none of which require additional fasteners.
ReplyDeleteI do agree with Kate I would be interested to see this in a more substantial material. I am concerned that polyprop would is to light and that the unit may have a tendency to tip over.
Something that i need, something that i really want in my house! and yes, perhaps with more sustainable material I could totally see his product in market.

ReplyDeleteThe triangular central structure seems capable to withstand the weight of the remotes and you've designed it so the remotes lean on supports so I think the weight is distributed well.
If it was in a thicker material I'm afraid the user would not be able to fold and construct the product with the same finesse, maybe instead considering a more attractive material for it's aesthetic?
Either way, it's a really great design. Thumbs up!
